Though not quite on the famous Wolds Way, Skidby has always
attracted walkers. The village is on the route of the Beverley 20 (from
Beverley Minster to the Humber Bridge) and included on various 6-9 mile
circular routes taking in nearby Risby, Cottingham and Eppleworth or the more
challenging High Hunsley circuit, which takes participants through places like Bishop
Burton, North and South Newbald & South Cave along its 25 mile route.
The Hiker statue is located on the western edge of Skidby village, where many walkers strike out on the road to Little Weighton, as it curves out of the village into the East Yorkshire countryside, or up through the fields towards Risby. Depending on the season, walkers can expect to encounter everything from hares and pheasants to roe deer and red kites. The hedgerows, woods and fields of the riding are filled with plants like wild garlic, bluebells, damson, wild cherry, poppies, basil, thyme and many, many more.
